EMBA 6201 (2-2-0) Financial Accounting

The objective of this course is to provide an understanding of financial accounting fundamentals. The focus is on below the surface understanding of how economic events like corporate investments, financing transactions and operating activities are recorded in the three main financial statements (i.e., the income statement, balance sheet, and statement of cash flows). Along the way, students will develop the technical skills needed to analyze corporate financial statements and disclosures for use in financial analysis, and to interpret how accounting standards and managerial incentives affect the financial reporting process.

EMBA 6202 (2-2-0) Organizational Dynamics and Leading Creative Change

Frameworks, models, and perspectives on leading change that can be applied immediately to participants’ own workplaces. Hands-on experiential learning that offers valuable lessons learned from research and interaction with business leaders who discuss best practices related to specific change initiatives. Evaluation of factors that were detrimental to organizational transformation and strategic scenario-based discussion are central to the intense, experiential, small-group learning format. Topics include: change process, role of leadership in executing change, culture and congruence, personality impact on  change, work systems as drivers of change, implementation, and overcoming obstacles / resistance to maximum benefits from change efforts.

EMBA 6203 (2-2-0) Data Analysis for Decision Making

Participants will utilize real-life cases and personal workplace situations in learning to apply some graphic and quantitative  tools of operational decision analysis. Modeling and graphics applications used include text boxes, spreadsheet layout and design, formulas, functions, and charts of various types. Models include probability distributions, decision trees, present value, expected value of information, time series forecasting, analysis of variance, and multiple linear regression. Emphasis is on effective articulation and presentation of reasoning and conclusions.

EMBA 6204 (2-2-0) Executive Communication

Students will develop an advanced understanding and put into practice three primary communication functions: business speaking and listening in executive settings, the professional use of digital information and social media, and the utilization of online tools towards a professional online presence.

EMBA 6205 (2-2-0) Accounting Information and Control Systems

The major objective of this course is the understanding of the development and analysis of financial and managerial   accounting information and control systems. Topics include origination, classification, control, development and design  including installation of accounting systems. Importance of reliable internal controls is central theme. Accounting as it relates to evaluating a firm’s position of liquidity and profitability is context for study.

EMBA 6206 (2-2-0) Advanced Negotiation

This course addresses the dynamics of healthy and non-healthy conflict within organizational settings. Topical areas of study include: Analyzing constructive/destructive conflict, internal factors/system context as basis for organizational conflict, identification of self and others as sources for emergence of conflict and how to form goals for working through/avoiding future similar scenarios, inducement strategies and alternatives to conflict, identifying organizational struggle points for positive influence through (if not avoidance of) conflict, and settlements through negotiated and non-negotiated means as paths to reducing destructive conflict. Participants will identify useful strategies/methods and implement in practical settings through discussion, simulation, role playing and practical workplace research to reinforce learning.

EMBA 6207 (2-2-0) Managerial Finance

Participants examine theory and practice of financial decision-making to maximize the firm’s value through ethical, high integrity standards and practices. Major topics include capital budgeting, risk-return relationship and capital market theory, market efficiency, capital structure, dividend policy, long-term financing, financial management issues, financial planning/control and working capital management. Participants will utilize relevant workplace situations for analysis in conjunction with these topics. Each decision is part of the overall financial strategy that adds value to its constituents/shareholders.

EMBA 6208 (2-2-0) Global Leadership International Trip

Designed for students to gain an international perspective from leadership in other countries and industries outside their own. During an 8-day trip, students will visit an international location to meet with local leaders to strengthen their global awareness of organizations and workplaces in other cultures. Students will have the opportunity to observe and examine industries such as health care, manufacturing, and service providers in order to contrast them with those of the United States. In the past, destinations for international travel study have included China, Russia, Ireland, India, Malta, and Brazil. Ultimately, this course will expose students to the habits of today’s new innovators from across the globe.

EMBA 6209 (2-2-0) Economics for Business Executives

This course explores fundamentals of economic theory and the principles by which modern micro and macroeconomic theory apply to the market-based economy. An emphasis will be placed on U.S. economics and fiscal policy implications with some consideration of global perspectives.

EMBA 6210 (2-2-0) Operations Management and Global Competition

A comprehensive view of the internal and external operations of organizations is considered in this course with a special emphasis on the global supply chain and competition. Methods for manufacturing, in and outsourcing, service-based industries, and other operations functions are emphasized.

EMBA 6211 (2-2-0) Marketing Management

Participants examine the explicit process of formulating organizational marketing goals and strategies. Design is to investigate interrelationship of information needs between marketing research and marketing management. Emphasis is on methods and techniques that may be employed for collection and analysis of primary data for effective measurement of results related to marketing initiatives/practices. Course examines the environment relative to the creation and movement of goods and services.

Analysis/emphasis of pricing, communication, and distribution decisions as connected to overall mission and strategy of organization is context for learning.

EMBA 6212 (2-2-0) Organizational Leadership

Emphasis is placed on development of leadership competencies and styles to enable participants to become leaders of influence, integrity, impact, and visionaries of effective change in multiple settings. All become familiar with past and current leaders while examining their own personal methods and overall perceptions of leadership to get results. Extending influential reach through strong relationships is major focus. Participants develop and grow through effective coaching sessions with executive mentors and faculty. Knowing yourself, understanding others and developing trust and credibility are essential course deliverables. Effective leaders must learn from experiences by looking within as a transformative tool.

EMBA 6213 (2-2-0) Human Capital Management

Leaders must often create conditions that allow teams to manage themselves effectively in order to maximize organizational effectiveness and profitability. It is imperative leaders can orchestrate stability, provide clear and engaging direction for teams, enable teams through structural redesign, and to give supportive leadership through resource allocation within an  organizational context to create and sustain maximum team performance. Some additional topics are compelling direction, expert coaching, innovative thinking for/about leading high performing teams, and best practices around the challenges. Executive mentoring and small group dynamics used extensively. Students will understand hiring and partnering for successful innovation and bringing diverse talent together to spark new ideas and processes.

EMBA 6214 (2-2-0) Strategic Management

Synthesis course exploring organizational strategy considers both theoretical and application issues within the executive level perspective. Specific focus on interplay between organizational structure, design, people, culture, technology, and global environment. Participants conduct internal and external organizational assessments, identify key strategic issues, identify and choose from alternative strategies, and defend such decisions along with implementation-ready solutions. A variety of experiential methods are utilized for learning such as case studies, strategic projects with an existing company, and executive mentoring.

EMBA 6215 (2-2-0) Innovation and Strategy

Innovation and lean concepts are introduced and covered using key tools, theories, and resources of innovation and entrepreneurship habit formation including lean startup methodology, design thinking, agile development, the business model canvas, and value proposition design. Students will understand and use frameworks that leading companies use to build innovation into their business models and approaches in context.

EMBA 6216 (2-2-0) Executive Legal Issues

This course considers the primary laws affecting organizations and how they influence executive leadership decision making. Examples include contract law, commercial transactional law, corporate governance, intellectual property law, and securities law.
