CPSL 3310 (3-3-0) Recreation Leadership

A study of recreation problems and the development of competence in leadership techniques in recreation programs.

CPSL 3320 (3-3-0) Principles of Camp and Recreation Management

(CPRM 3320)

Students will explore various recreational elements including, but not limited to, camps and retreat centers, local and international sports ministries, camping, athletic team chaplaincy, adventure recreation, and physical fitness ministries. Special attention will be given to the philosophy of recreational ministry and the role of a recreational minister. In addition, students will explore the benefits of using various forms of recreation to reach a variety of ages with the Gospel.

CPSL 3330 (3-3-0) Facilities and Logistics for Camps/Recreation

(CPRM 3330)

This course covers the planning, design, construction, and maintenance of buildings and recreational components of camps, parks, and recreational components used in the field of camping and sports programs. Students will tour various facilities to discover the skills needed to develop and successfully operate facilities, and the logistics involved behind the scenes.

CPSL 3340 (3-3-0) Outdoor Education Leadership

(CPRM 3340)

This course teaches students the fundamentals of instructing outdoor educational activities through a Biblical Christian worldview. Students will learn to instruct activities, including but not limited to backpacking, camping, hiking, and orienteering. Students will learn to plan, implement, assess for risk management, and evaluate an outdoor educational experience.

CPSL 4308 (3-3-0) Practicum in Camp/Sport Leadership (S-L)

(CPRM 4308)

Internship training program for Camp/Sport Leadership majors supervised by the professor and a staff person of an organization relating to Camp/Sport Leadership. This course contains a field-based service-learning component.

CPSL 4309 (3-3-0) Camp and Recreation Organization Practice

(CPRM 4309)

A comprehensive study of Camp/and Recreation that assimilates the entire coursework to challenge the students’ knowledge and ability to manage a camp or recreation organization. Students will create a business plan for a camp or recreation organization, including strategic plans for marketing, finance, employment, and development.

CPSL 4360 (3-3-0) Special Topics in Camp/Sport Leadership

This course examines and critically evaluates specified areas of interest related to Camp Leadership or Sport Leadership. Students will engage current issues through the exploration of designated topics that might be time-sensitive to the life and ministry of the student. This course may be repeated for credit when the content of the Special Topics course changes. If a grade for a particular Special Topics course must be changed, the student must repeat the course with the same topic and content.
